Indian cinema needs to go global: Sujoy Ghosh


Kolkata, Jan 30 : Bollywood filmmaker Sujoy Ghosh Thursday said Indian cinema needs to go global and subtitles can help audiences worldwide understand and appreciate the films.

"We should be looking at global cinema. There's no reason why our films cannot go out there with subtitles," Ghosh said during a session at the third Kolkata Literary Meet here.

He stressed on how critical it is to capture the audience's attention.

"Primary battle inside a cinema hall is to grab the audience's attention. People are more conscious of their time."

Filmmaker Aparna Sen, one of the panelists, highlighted the importance of innovation during filmmaking.

"We have to constantly think on our feet and try to innovate. We try to work with existing resources."

Music composer Shantanu Moitra shed light on the aspect of amalgamating art and the market.

"Art cannot be left completely to the market forces. Both have to co-exist," he said, adding that internet and technology have provided a platform to regional artists and singers to showcase their talent

Amit Trivedi to perform at Kala Ghoda fest
Mumbai, Jan 30 (IANS) Amit Trivedi, who has composed the music of the Kangana Ranaut-starrer "Queen", will perform at the Kala Ghoda Arts Festival here Feb 2. The music of the forthcoming film will also be officially launched at the event.
He will churn out numbers from the Vikas Bahl directorial, which also stars Rajkummar Rao and Lisa Haydon. Along with the cast Bahl will also attend the event, said a statement.
"Queen" is a story about Rani, a shy girl played by Kangana, who has been abandoned at the altar by her fiance. However, she decides to go on her honeymoon all alone. It is about her making new friends in an unknown place and having the time of her life.
It is slated for a March 7 release.
Vidya-Farhan to impart 'shaadi' experience
Mumbai, Jan 30 : "Shaadi Ke Side Effects" actors Vidya Balan and Farhan Akhtar will share their marriage experiences with contestants of celebrity dance reality show "Nach Baliye 6".
The two along with actress Shilpa Shetty, who co-judges the show, will interact and share their marriage experience with contestants, said a statement.
The top four contestants on the show are - Rithvik Dhanjani-Asha Negi, Vinod-Raksha Thakur, Ripudaman Handa-Shivangi Verma and Gurmeet Choudhary-Debina Bonnerjee.
Filmmaker Sajid Khan and choreographer Terence Lewis are the other judges of the show that airs on Star Plus.

The worst of Bollywood in race for Kela awards

Superstars Aamir and Shah Rukh Khan's much-hyped films 'Dhoom 3' and 'Chennai Express' will be competing for the worst film trophy at the sixth annual Golden Kela awards, a spin off on Hollywood's Razzies.

The awards, to be given on March 29, recognize and honour the best of the worst in Hindi cinema every year by audience poll. Other films that have made it to the worst movie category are Ranbir Kapoor's 'Besharam', Hrithik Roshan's 'Kkrish 3' and 'Himmatwala', which is also nominated in the worst actor (Ajay Devgn), worst director (Sajid Khan) and RGV Ki Aag award for the most pointless remake or sequel.

Ranveer Singh's turn as Ram in 'Goliyon Ki Raas Leela... Ram Leel' while his co-star Deepika Padukone, who had four hits last year, has been named in the worst actress category for her outing with Shah Rukh Khan in 'Chennai Express'.

Other than Ranveer, the worst actor category has Imran Khan for 'Gori Tere Pyaar Mein' and newcomers like Aditya Roy Kapoor for 'Aashiqui 2' and Arjun Kapoor for 'Aurangzeb'.

 
In the female actors' category, Sonam Kapoor (Ranjhanaa) and her contemporary Deepika have made it to the list a third time. Shraddha Kapoor is giving company to her co-star Aditya for her role in 'Aashiqui 2'. The other two additions Pallavi Sharda for her debut in 'Besharam' and Sonakshi Sinha for 'R... Rajkumar'.

Aditya and Imran have garnered their second nominations in the worst best supporting actor category for 'Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani' and 'Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola'. Actor Sanjay Dutt has been named for his role of Sher Khan in 'Zanjeer' remake with the entire starcast of 'ABCD'.

The worst director list includes Sanjay Leela Bhansali for 'Goliyon Ki Raas Leela... Ram Leela', Rohit Shetty 'Chennai Express', Prabhu Deva 'R... Rajkumar', and Rakesh Roshan for son Hrithik Roshan starrer 'Kkrish 3'.

Among other categories, the award also has a hilarious section titled Baawra Ho Gaya Hai Ke Award (Have you gone mad?) and the nominees in the list include Aamir Khan for starring in mindless caper 'Dhoom 3', Vishal Bhardwaj for making flop 'Matru Ki Bijli Ka Mandola', Abhinav Kashyap and Ranbir Kapoor for making 'Besharam', Tigmanshu Dhulia for his commercial attempt 'Bullett Raja' and Sudhir Mishra 'Inkaar'.

"The movies that released this year gave us ample choice for the nominations. It might be tough for the voters to decide which one was the absolute worst! This time the nominations were especially difficult, because Bollywood spewed out an incredible amount of crappy films and the Indian audience spent a large amount of money on them," Jatin Varma, Founder, Golden Kela Awards, said in a statement.

The other category includes Aakhir Kyun Award, Dara Singh Award for Worst Accent, Bas Kijiye Bahut Ho Gaya (That's enough), Aap Yahaan Aaye Kisliye Award (Why have you come here?) and Ra.One Award for Worst Premise.








Parineeti, Sidharth to feature in 'Yeh Hai Aashiqui'


Mumbai, Jan 30 : Actors Parineeti Chopra and Sidharth Malhotra will make an appearance in an upcoming episode of popular TV show "Yeh Hai Aashiqui" to promote their upcoming rom-com "Hasee Toh Phasee".

The duo will come as a special guest on the show, which features people entering into relationships that are still considered a taboo in the society.

The actors will talk about their love story in the movie in the episode featuring Anurag Sharma and Khyati Mangla in the lead role, said a statement.
Hosted by Rithvik Dhanjani, the episode will air Feb 9 on Bindass channel.





When Abhay, Preeti got dancing lessons from Bharti


Mumbai, Jan 30 : Comedian Bharti Singh is known for her unique ways of impressing actors, and this time she is taking it to the next level by teaching some dance moves to actors Abhay Deol and Preeti Desai.

The real life couple will attend the comedy show "Comedy Circus ke Mahabali" to promote their latest movie "One By Two".

Bharti, being one of the most enthusiastic participants of the show, will invite the two to shake a leg with her. Though hesitant at first, Abhay and Preeti then sportingly grooved with her on the song "Pinky hai paise walo ki".

Even actor-comedian Krushna Abhishek will be seen teaching Abhay how to play a rockstar by showing him some dance steps to the song "I am just pakaod" from his film.
The episode will air Sunday on Sony Entertainment Television.
