Audiences' appreciation more fulfilling than awards: Kiran Rao

Mumbai, May 14 : Filmmaker Kiran Rao, who released Anand Gandhi's highly acclaimed "Ship of Theseus" in association with UTV Motion Pictures, is overwhelmed with the film's National Award win. But she also feels that for the makers, the best reward is acceptance by the audience.
The makers of "Ship of Theseus" and "Shahid" threw a success party here Tuesday to celebrate the National Award win of both films.

"All filmmakers are greedy. We (filmmakers) want everything. We want box office success, critical acclaim, awards and everything else. But I think when the audience likes a film, that appreciation is far more fulfilling, far more satisfying than any award," Kiran said here Tuesday at the party.

"I think both these films - 'Ship of Theseus' and 'Shahid' - have done that. They have touched the people. That's the biggest reward you can get as a filmmaker," she added.

"Ship of Theseus", directed by Anand Gandhi, won the National Award in the Best Feature film category at the 61st National Awards. The film, which had been to the 12th Toronto International Film Festival as well, explores various aspects of life through three different characters from different walks of life.

Meanwhile, Hansal Mehta's directorial venture "Shahid", won two National Awards -- best actor award for Rajkummar Rao and best director for Hansal Mehta. It is based on the life of murdered human rights lawyer Shahid Azmi.

Deepika to romance Jisshu in Shoojit Sircar's Piku

Shoojit Sircar's next film 'Piku', which already has a formidable cast of Amitabh Bachchan, Irrfan Khan and Deepika Padukone, just got more interesting. It now stars Bengali star Jisshu Sengupta in the romantic lead opposite Deepika.
Jisshu, who made his Bollywood debut opposite Ileana D'Cruz in a guest appearance in Anurag Basu's 'Barfi!' would next be seen in Pradeep Sarkar's Hindi film 'Mardaani', in which he plays husband to Rani Mukerji's character.
Sircar is said to have been keen to cast Jisshu Sengupta opposite Deepika Padukone as the role suited him to perfection. However, the fact that Jisshu was being launched as a leading man by Yash Raj Films (YRF) put a question mark on Jisshu's presence in 'Piku'.
Deepika romance to Jisshu
Meanwhile, it is being said that Jisshu showed Shoojit his Bengali film 'Jaatishwar'. Only then was Sircar convinced.
The excited actor said: "It's a big break with a director I really admire and with actors I really love. It has been my dream to work with Mr. Bachchan from the time I decided I wanted to be an actor."
"Irrfan-ji is another actor I truly admire. As for Deepika, isn't she everyone's favourite dream girl these days?," he further added.

Shahrukh Khan to watch IPL 7 at Wankhede stadium Mumbai?

May 14, 2014 – Last year King Khan missed the matches at Mumbai’s famous Wankhede stadium, thanks to the five year ban imposed on the actor
Shahrukh Khan missed watching Sachin Tendulkar’s last outing on the cricketing field following the 2012 IPL Wankhede controversy. The Maharashtra Cricket Association under Vilasrao Deshmukh had announced a ban citing that SRK had ‘shown no regrets for his action and behaviour…in fact, he justified his actions’. However, this year the actor might just be back on the Wankhede stands cheering hard for his team Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).
Apparently one of the fifteen conditions that Indian Premiere League chairman Rajib Biswal has put before the MCA to have the IPL 7 finale in Mumbai is that all team owners (read:including Shahrukh Khan) be allowed to enter the stadium.
It seems that the season seven finale that was to happen in Mumbai might be shifted to Chinnaswamy stadium in Bangalore if the MCA doesn’t meet demands of the IPL chairman. Well, looks like SRK doesn’t have to wait another three years and seasons of the popular crickte format to catch a match in Wankhede after all. Considering that the Happy New Year hero had expressed regret and said, “I forget the rules sometimes. I will try not to do it again, so that I’m not banned from here.”
