Haj pilgrims to get 5-star level facilities at Rubaat

Mumbai, May 7: Govinda may have scaled the success graph during his prime and won the epithet "King of Comedy", but he was never the critics' favourite. But the actor dismisses it saying his fate was decided by the masses not scribes.
"Govinda is not made by critics. I have been the hero of masses. Masses are not bothered by critics and they are god. They decide the fate of a film," said Govinda. After taking people on laugh riots with his antics in highly entertaining dramas like "Hero No. 1", "Coolie No. 1" and "Partner", Govinda will be seen in a negative role in "Kill Dil".
When asked if he was comfortable doing a villainous role, he said: "It's an exciting role, but I thought I won't be able to do it... but touchwood, I have managed to do it. There is an emotional background in it, so I could do it." After ruling the box office for years, Govinda took to politics but his stint as a politician couldn't' match his success as an actor. Later, when he tried to return to the silver screen and cash in on his funny image, it failed to pay rich dividends.
He said: "I am sad that my last films 'Run Bhola Run' and 'Banda Yeh Bindaas Hai' didn't release... it had been a downfall in my career. For the last three to four years my films didn't release and I don't know the reason behind that. If you don't know the answer for that, there is no point in discussing it. "I just want to keep working. I never worry about anything. Although I pray for the producers as it must be difficult for them so, I hope they come out of this problem," he added.

In search of Priyanka in India
Confidence Uwazuruike came to Mumbai a few weeks ago to cover the Great Indian Election Tamasha. On this wishlist was to see Priyanka in flesh and blood. His wish came true this week, but not quite in the way he wanted it to be.
I came to India as part of the Project India group of Bournemouth University to cover the Indian elections.
Three men – Rahul Gandhi, Narendra Modi, Arvind Kejriwal -- and two women –Sonia and Priyanka Gandhi -- have been the main focus of my life for several weeks now.
Priyanka has been in the news a lot recently. There have been a lot of words exchanged between her and Modi, as she tries to help Rahul retain his Amethi seat. It would be a dream come true if I could meet her.
And as fate would have it, I met a Priyanka on May 5 in Mumbai but her surname wasn’t Gandhi or Vadra.
Priyanka Chopra is one of the most celebrated Indian actresses and was the winner of the Miss World pageant in 2000. She had come down to Mumbai, which she constantly referred to as home, to release her first solo single. The song which is titled ‘I can’t make you love me’ was originally performed by Bonnie Raitt.
You knew you were in the right venue when you get into the dimly lit hall of the Blue Frog. The Blue Frog in Lower Parel prides itself as ‘Mumbai’s premier live music performance space’. The rather small hall has a stage and several seating compartments shaped like frogs. These compartments can seat about seven people. The lightening gave the hall some sort of violet appearance.
On this night, the screens just in front of the audience had just one picture on them – Priyanka! You knew who the evening was about.
The event was to begin at 7.30 pm. But, until now I had not heard of the Indian Standard Time. It didn’t bother anyone when she was over an hour late. She came in at about 9.05 pm donning a black skirt with some white t-shirt with the inscription ‘only child’. She talked about her inspiration for choosing to sing that song. It was addressed to Indian young women that had been let down in a relationship. It was her first solo single and her first live performance and she thought Mumbai, home, was the best place to do that.
The small waiting crowd was eager to hear her sing. They didn’t wait for long now. But it wasn’t her voice we heard. It was some pre-recorded sound. It was her first performance, maybe she wasn’t as courageous. But we probably deserved better after a long wait.
But the press didn’t spare her.
Someone asked: “How come you sound different in all your songs”.
She replied: “But I just did it before all of you”.
Oh no, you didn’t!
In a challenge set by another journalist in the crowd, Priyanka had to prove she could sing, for real this time.
She sang a bit of the song with just her voice and she didn’t do too badly, according to the applause from the crowd.
Who knows? My good spell of luck might just continue and an opportunity to see the ‘real’ Priyanka, Priyanka Gandhi, may well fall before me.
Didn't expect Saif, Soha to become actors: Sharmila Tagore
Mumbai, May 7 : Veteran actress Sharmila Tagore says she never expected that two of her children - Saif Ali Khan and Soha Ali Khan will take up acting as a profession.
Sharmila is mother to three - Saif, Soha and Saba - from her late husband Mansoor Ali Khan Pataudi.
"We (Mansoor and I) thought that she (Soha) would follow an academic career. Earlier she was working with Ford Foundation in the developmental field and after that she started working with Citibank. Then we thought maybe she has changed her mind. "But then she started showing interest towards working in films and her first film was a Bengali film, which I was quite happy being a Bengali," Sharmila told reporters here Tuesday at an event by Clinic Plus to celebrate Mothers' Day. She says as parents, they were always supportive of their kids. "We didn't expect Saif also to go into the films because both of them were kept away from films completely. But films is what they chose and we were supportive," she added. Soha made her acting debut in 2004 and she was last seen in "Mr. Joe B. Carvalho" this year, while Saif, who is a National Award winner, made his acting debut in 1992 with Yash Chopra's "Parampara". Currently, he has the upcoming films "Humshakals" and "Happy Ending" in his kitty. Raj Kapoor was a musician himself: Lata Mangeshkar
By Subhash K. Jha, Mumbai, May 7 : Veteran playback singer Lata Mageshkar, whose links with the Kapoor family go a long way back, says legendary actor-filmmaker Raj Kapoor had an in-depth knowledge of music and music in his movies had his contribution to a very large extent.
On the occasion of her father Dinanath Mangeshkar's death anniversary April 24, Lata honoured "Bobby" star Rishi Kapoor for his excellence in acting.
Asked about it, Lata said: "Yes, I've always thought very highly of Rishiji's acting talents. The whole family, Rishiji, Neetuji, their son Ranbir and daughter Riddhima came for the function. It was very kind of them." "As you know my links with the Kapoor family go a long way. Ranbir and I share the same birthday. In fact, Raj Saab's daughter Reema was also born on the same day as me (Sep 28)." Tell us about your bonding with Raj Kapoor? "He was a musician himself. The music in his films had his contribution to a very large extent. He would often play the songs and then the composer would take it up," said the 84-year-old who sang hit numbers for Raj Kapoor's films like "Ghar aaya mera pardesi" ("Awara"), "Pyar hua iqrar hua" ("Shree 420"), and "Yeh galiyan yeh chaubara" ("Prem Rog"). "I love the sounds he created for 'Ram Teri Ganga Maili'. I've heard that in some rural centres audience would stop the screening of 'Ram Teri Ganga Maili' and demand that the song 'Sun sahiba sun' be played again," she added. |
