Wave Against Congress
ven Modi would have lost badly had he contested on Congress ticket: Sanjay Nirupam
All India Congress Committee secretary Sanjay Nirupam
NEW DELHI: In remarks that could spell controversy for Congress, AICC secretary Sanjay Nirupam on Saturday said "even Narendra Modi would have badly lost in the Lok Sabha elections had he contested on a Congress ticket."

Nirupam, who lost from the Mumbai North constituency, told reporters that despite several decisions taken by it for the welfare of the people, a severe anti-incumbency wave had worked against the Congress-led UPA coalition.

"We were in the government for 10 years and, due to many factors, there was public anger against Congress. There was such strong a sentiment against Congress that even Narendra Modi would have lost badly had he contested on a Congress ticket," Nirupam said .

Nirupam, however, insisted that the outcome of the Lok Sabha elections may not play out again in states like Maharashtra, where assembly elections are due by the year-end.

The BJP won 282 seats in the just-concluded general election while Congress has managed to send only 44 members to the 16th Lok Sabha.

AICC secretary Sanjay Nirupam lost from the Mumbai North Lok Sabha constituency.

"This election was different. Certain decisions were taken during the 10 years (of UPA rule) due to which there was anger among the people. There were also issues of price rise and corruption and BJP blew it out of proportion. But every election is a learning (process) ... (But) this is not a permanent trend, I do not think results of assembly elections will be similar to that of the Lok Sabha polls," averred Nirupam

AKSHAY’S HOLIDAY RECEIVES GOOD RESPONSE IN BHOPAL

THE TWO POLES APART BOLLYWOOD MOVIES HOLIDAY AND FILMISTAAN WERE RELEASED HERE ON FRIDAY. AKSHAY KUMAR -STARRER FILM HOLIDAY- A SOLDIER IS NEVER OFF DUTY RECEIVED AN OVERWHELMING RESPONSE FROM  BHOPALITES AND THE THEATRES WERE ALMOST FULL ON THE FIRST DAY OF THE FILM RELEASE.
Holiday - A Soldier Is Never off Duty, is another action sequence of Akshay Kumar and no doubt Akshay is one of the best action heros Bollywood has seen in last so many years. The best part of the film is the pratoganist of the movie i.e. Akshay Kumar. Though he did not do anything new in the movie but he has satisfied the need of an action hero to the fullest.

Directed by A Murgadoss, this movies is a remake of a Tamil film Thupakki. Comparing it with Murgadoss’s first Bollywood movies Ghajjini Holiday is not that effective an impactful. This is a story of a military guy Virat who has taken an off from his duty just to visit his hometown and hunt for his bride (Sonakshi Sinha). Just when he visited his home he is seen romancing with his girl and suddenly Mumbai is surrounded with horrified terror attacks. Here the story begins when his holiday turns to a havoc with the terrorist attacks and now it is upto the soldiers to save Mumbai from these attacks.
Sonakshi Sinha playing the female protagonist did not have much to do in the movie other than singing songs and dancing around. Moreover, the lead villain of the film Farhad was also not impactful. On the other hand the film also focuses on sleeper cells as it triggers a fear that anyone from the paanwala to pizza-delivery boy could be a 'closet' terrorist.
Music by Pritam somehow manages to capture the attention of the viewers making their feet tap on the rhythm. Again, Akshay's stunts are jaw-dropping; he's in top form and impressively leads the show without much support from his squadron of actors.

Fare controversy erupts a day before Mumbai Metro opens

The much awaited 11.4 km Versova-Andheri-Gahtkopar Metro rail project, slated to be launched on Sunday, finds itself in the middle of a major controversy over its fares. TheGovernment of Maharashtra and its undertaking Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has argued that the Reliance Infrastructure arm Mumbai Metro One Pvt Ltd (MMOPL) will have to abide by the provisions of concession agreement to charge fares of Rs 9, 11, 13 for the journey depending on the distance. However, MMOPL, which has announced a promotional fare of Rs 10 for a month beginning Sunday irrespective of the distance, said that as per the provisions of Metro Act, which overrules the concession agreement, it was the administrator and entitled to fix the fare. MMOPL has thereby proposed a fare of Rs 10, 20, 30, 40 which has been strongly opposed by the state government and MMRDA.

Ironically, MMRDA, which holds 26% equity in the MMOPL, has already filed the writ petition in the Bombay High Court against the MMOPL board's recent decision to fix the tariff of Rs 10, 20, 30 and 40. Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan told Business Standard, "As per the tender, RInfra has agreed to charge fares of Rs 9, Rs.11 and Rs.13 for the journey (depending on km). Now, they are planning to charge between Rs 10-Rs 40. This is totally unacceptable to us, MMRDA has already approached the High Court." He indicated that he may not attend the inauguration of Metro scheduled at 10 am on Sunday if the company sticks to its decision to go ahead with the new fare structure.

Chavan said that the fare should have been fixed by the Fare Fixation Committee comprising the sitting or the retired judge with representatives of the Government of India and the Government of Maharashtra. The chief minister alleged that "the BJP is helping RInfra in the fare hike". He added that the  BJP must make its stand clear on the issue of fares and take responsibility for any hike in the ticket rates.

However, MMOPL director Debashish Mohanty strongly justified the fare block of Rs 10 to 40 saying that it comes to 1.5 times of the bus fare charged by the BrihanMumbai Electric Supply & Transport (BEST) during Versova-Ghatkopar sector which is ranging between Rs 6 & 25 per trip. '' The Rs 10 to 40 fare, which is fixed as per section 33 of the Metro Act, is sustainable, affordable and helpful for people to travel. MMOPL is duty bound to fix the fare.  During the first year there won't be returns to the promoter. We are in no any way undermining the authority of the Government of Maharashtra or MMRDA,''

On the chief minister's statement, Mohanty reiterated his stand that the Metro Act will prevail. Further to a question whether the company will start services if the chief minister skips the event, Mohanty said ''all are invited at 9.45 am on Sunday.''

Further, Mohanty said MMOPL will take a call on when to approach the fare fixation committee for the revision. He informed that the Maharashtra government has yet to nominate its representative on the committee.

Meanwhile, MMOPL CEO Abhay Mishra said the project cost has increased to Rs 4,321 crore from Rs 2,356 crore. He informed that the operation and maintenance cost has also shot up to Rs 240 crore as on date from Rs 100 crore annually estimated in 2007. Mishra said all the necessary clearances were in MMOPL's possession. The Railway Board on Thursday gave its final security clearance for the first phase.

The Metro service will start 5.30 am and continue till midnight with a total of 16 rakes deployed on the sector, serving the glamour and IT centres of Versova and the business and manufacturing areas of Ghatkopar at a speed of 80 kmph. Each of the colourful rakes with four coaches will have a capacity of around 375 commuters or around 1,500 commuters per service, zooming above the city between Versova to Ghatkopar. "The number of coaches will be increased to six per train by 2017," said Mishra.

According to Mishra, daily, around 600,000 commuters are expected to travel by the Mumbai Metro at affordable ticket rates. However, the total carrying capacity is of 1.1 to 1.5 million per day. "There will be 270-280 services both ways in air-conditioned comfort, at intervals of around four minutes, covering the distance between Versova to Ghatkopar within 21 minutes," he added.

At present, the east-west corridor between Versova-Ghatkopar has no suburban train link and is serviced by either BEST public buses or cabs, taking around 90-120 minutes, depending on traffic density and other factors. The 12 stations are conveniently located, starting with Versova, DN Nagar, Azad Nagar, Andheri, Western Express Highway (WEH), Chakala, Airport Road, Marol Naka, Saki Naka, Subhash Nagar, Asalpha Road, Jagruti Nagar and terminating at Ghatkopar.
