Pooja Bhatt warns against 'casting agent' misusing her name

Mumbai, March 22: Pooja Bhatt was left aghast Saturday morning. A woman knocked at her door for a meeting fixed by a "casting agent", who the actress-filmmaker conjectures is "masquerading" as her on online social networking platform to exploit young Bollywood aspirants.
"A young lady and Bollywood hopeful arrived at my house at 5.30 a.m. saying a certain Rajeev Malhotra, who claims to be my casting agent, sent her. She went on to insist she also 'spoke to me' on FB (Facebook) and I confirmed the same. "This is dangerous as obviously, someone is masquerading as me on FB," Pooja, daughter of acclaimed filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt, posted on her Twitter page.
Clarifying her stance on the matter, she added: "No agent or co-ordinator represents me. This man claiming to be 'Rajeev Malhotra - 9667882304' is attempting to use my name and mislead young women." "More than 50 percent of the co-ordinators out there have no access to people who actually launch stars. They lie to young aspirants and exploit them. It concerns me that innocents, with stars in their eyes will be taken advantage of by sharks who scour the shallow waters of fame for a kill," added the filmmaker, who has directed movies like "Paap" and "Jism".

Sanam Puri
Times of India

He is young, handsome, and already has two big hits in his kitty. Sanam Puri, the Ishq bulaava singer, was in town to perform at a Holi party. We caught up with him for a quick chat. Excerpts:

How was it performing in Kolkata?
It was awesome! We were playing out in the open and it was really hot, but the crowd had so much energy and that made it all worth it.

You keep coming to Kolkata for performances. What do you like about this city?
The food! There's something about Bengali food. I have had north Indian, south Indian and various other cuisines, but Bengali cuisine ki baat hi kuchh alag hai, especially the sea food. But now I am trying to turn vegetarian. So I guess I will miss the Bengali sea food.

Why are you trying to turn vegetarian?
I love animals. In fact, I abstained from non-veg for eight months. But then, I went to Thailand and all my resolve went up in smoke (laughs).

How were you introduced to the world of music?
Music has always been with me. I started singing when I was six. It's like breathing to me, though it was never my idea of a profession. I just loved whatever odd gigs I was doing. In fact, at the cost of sounding boastful, may I add that by the kind of response I was getting, I knew I was good. I won 36 trophies in my three years of college in Delhi.

How did Bollywood happen? We had our band, the SQS Project. We came up with an album, but after that, things started going downhill. For a couple of years, we were out of work and kind of stuck. And then we met Ben Thomas, who used to manage people like Sonu Nigam. He heard me sing and recommended me to Vishal-Shekhar. After auditioning me, they said they had a song in mind for me. A week later, I bagged Dhat teri ki.

So, where do you see yourself in another 10 years? Do you want to stick to Bollywood?
Bollywood is big, and it definitely was a huge break for me. I really am grateful to a lot of people for that. But I'm partial towards independent music and would like to focus on that too. I would like to do my own stuff, come up with albums with my band. It's been three years since our last album. Till now, we have been mostly doing covers. Now, we want to do our own stuff. An album is in the pipeline, and it will also include a video. But the bigger dream is more than that. I want my music to be a medium for social change. It is my weapon; I don't want it to go to waste. I would like to compose more motivational and inspirational numbers.

Tell us about your influences.
There really aren't any. And that's because I never really listened to a lot of music. During my days in Muscat, I would mostly listen to western music, like opera. I had never even heard Bollywood songs till three years back. But then, when I moved to Delhi, I realized that there was no ignoring Bollywood. Previously, I would only sing in English. Then my mother told me, "You are an Indian. If you want to make an impact in India with your music, you have to do it in Hindi." That is when I started singing in Hindi.

Do you listen to regional music now? Do you have any plans to sing for regional movies?
I don't mind singing in any language. I don't think language can be a constraint when it comes to music. But I don't really listen to music by other composers much, be it regional or otherwise. That is because if I listen to music by others, I get heavily influenced while composing my own music; I lose my originality.

You have the looks. Any plans of foraying into acting?
I do! Acting is definitely on the cards. Actually, I am looking at some prospects right now. Let's see how they pan out.
