Onir feels economics hapmers creativity in films

Onir feels economics hapmers creativity in films
Mumbai: Film-maker-producer Onir, who is known for his critically acclaimed films including "My Brother Nikhil", "I AM" among others, feels creativity gets hampered if economics becomes the driving force of a film.
"I think it's important to know when economics becomes the driving force of a film then it hampers the creativity of the film. It should not become the driving force... the aspect of film making should be creativity but not the money making business," Onir told IANS at the 16th MAMI film festival.
He also feels that the festival films have started getting the recognition which is a great change.
"'Lunch Box' is a huge example.. it's been a huge grosser worldwide. I think the film made with love will find an audience. Its not necessary it crosses Rs.100 crore (in box office collections)."
Meanwhile, Onir is busy directing his next film. "I am shooting a film in Delhi. Its called 'Shab'. It's about people and fashion industry, multiple relations, an intense love story. I am introducing a new actor in this film and I feel new actors should get a chance."
Shab features Raveena Tandon and Ashish Bisht among others.

Abhishek Bachchan's Happy New Year character 'opposite' of his real self

Mumbai: Abhishek Bachchan, who has donned a 'tapori' look for his role as Nandu Bhide in "Happy New Year", says the character had to be created from scratch as he bears no resemblance to the actor's real self.
Talking about his character in the film, he said: "I play Nandu Bhide from Sangam Chawl in Mumbai. He enjoys his drink a bit too much and that makes him very entertaining and very outrageous, but a lot of fun.
"Nandu is completely opposite of what I am in real life. There was nothing I could use of myself in Nandu. He is somebody that director Farah Khan and I have literally created from scratch."
"Happy New Year", which releases Oct 24, is a multi-starrer heist drama which also features Shah Rukh Khan, Deepika Padukone, Boman Irani, Sonu Sood and Vivaan Shah.

Initially, I was not comfortable doing 'Kill Dil', my wife encouraged me: Govinda

Mumbai: Bollywood star Govinda is returningto the big screen after a gap of almost four years with 'Kill Dil', and he says it was his wife Sunita, who urged him to take up this romantic action film. The 50-year-old actor, who was last seen in 2011 film 'Naughty @ 40', says he decided to say yes to the upcoming Yash Raj project as his wife thought the movie will benefit their kids' career.  "Initially my mother used to guide me about many things in life. After her, my wife Sunita has been saying a lot of things which I follow.
"Sunita actually encouraged me to take up 'Kill Dil' as she felt that this movie will be good for our kids' career," said Govinda, adding that he was not working for the past 3-4 years largely because he did not like the roles he was offered. The actor says he had an amazing time working in the film as it has always been his dream to work under the Yash Raj banner. "I had a dream of working with YRF. I used to visit the studio and see pictures of various actors there but mine was missing. Now that I am working with them, it is really an amazing feeling. They are learned and well-behaved. And this wait was worth it," he said.
In 'Kill Dil', which also stars Parineeti Chopra, Ranveer Singh and Ali Zafar, Govinda plays a negative role. Govinda, who has earlier donned a villainous avatar on-screen in 2000 film 'Shikari', said he was initially apprehensive about the character. "I was not comfortable with the villainous role so I spoke to Aditya (Chopra) and director Shaad Ali personally. I also told Shaad that if I won't be able to portray the character well then I will take an exit from the film.
"But I am hopeful that the audience will appreciate my effort. At the end of the day fans want to see a good film of their idol," Govinda said. The actor was all praise for his 'Kill Dil' co-star Ranveer Singh, saying, "He is a very good boy, I liked his film 'Ram Leela'... after a long long time I had whistled while watching the film." Besides 'Kill Dil', which hits theatres on November 14, Govinda will also be seen in 'Happy Ending' alongside Saif Ali Khan.
"Saif is an amazing person to work with. He has done a great job in 'Happy Ending'. He is a National award winner and I respect him a lot," Govinda said.
'Happy Ending' releases on November 21.
