2014 Election: TV actress hope for better education, women's security

Mumbai, April 22: The 16th Lok Sabha elections are underway and actresses like Jennifer Winget and Deepika Singh sat that once the new government comes to power, it should work towards education for all, security for women and eradication of child labour.
Here is what they have to say:
Jennifer Winget (Kumud from 'Saraswatichandra'): Education is the country's greatest leveler and its redemption. It's the best investment we can make in our youth and future. So, it's obvious that the priority of the next government should be to increase the literacy rate so that youth can afford a better standard of living. A lot of students from small towns have to shed the comforts of their homes to seek quality education outsideÂ… I believe whichever government comes to power, ensuring access to good quality education across the country should be its primary agenda.
Deepika Singh (Sandhya from 'Diya Aur Baati Hum': More often than not a woman now-a-days steps out of her home in fear that something unfortunate will happen to her, and even if it does, instead of receiving support from the authorities, she is subjected to more trauma. What this nation desperately needs is to impose more stringent laws and action for crimes against women and to create a clean and caring system, one such initiative is the 'One Stop Rape Crisis Center'. Whichever government comes to power should make sure that women feel safe and secure in their own country.
Neelu Vaghela (Bhabho from 'Diya Aur Baati Hum'): I think shortage of power is a major concern across a vast landmass of our country. An emerging economy like ours needs to have the basic amenities like electricity availability across all villages, towns and cities for all of its industry to be competent and prosper. It's a letdown that even in the 21st century some of our major cities suffer power cuts, which last for hours. I think fulfilling India's energy needs is of vital importance.
Manasi Savli (Avantika from 'Pyaar Ka Dard Hai Meetha Meetha Pyaara Pyaara'): Having robust infrastructure is the need of the hour. There is no dearth of hard working and talented professionals in India. The government needs to reward citizens with good infrastructure like providing hygienic sanitation facilities for women in public places is equally important.
Disha Parmar (Pankhuri from 'Pyaar Ka Dard Hai Meetha Meetha Pyaara Pyaara'): I want to see a wave of positive change with the new government. We would like to see them support new ideas and technology. Additionally encourage young entrepreneurs and extend an equal opportunity to all without any gender biases.
Divyanka Tripathi (Ishita from 'Ye Hai Mohabbatein'): Child Labour is a dreadful reality that has plagued our nation. Children are the future and need to be nurtured and educated so that they can grow to be the leaders of tomorrow. Eradication of child labour is of utmost importance to the nation.

Eyes speak volumes
Some expert tips for the perfect eyes.

Expert tips for a perfect eye make-up

Be it a simple kohl-on-the-go or an elaborate party eye make-up, we love giving our eyes their due in the spotlight. Why not? After all it’s the first thing that most people notice.
But they’re not always perfect — the way we want them to be. Stress coupled with a sleepless night can give you dark circles right on the day of an important party. Wondered how to make your eyes seem bigger? Wishing your eyebrows would appear thicker without having to paint them with kohl?
We turn to make-up artist Meghna Butani for help. Mumbai-based Meghna is an independent hair and make-up artist who has worked her magic on celebrities like Malaika Arora Khan, Freida Pinto, Mandira Bedi and Prachi Desai, besides working with brides, and on ads and film projects.
Tiredness
Strained your eyes watching the last season’s episodes of Breaking Bad back-to-back? It helps to keep some eye cooling drops and even tea bags handy in the refrigerator. Applying them in/on your eyes, will make them look fresher.
Dark circles
Unless you want to prove to your boss that you’ve been sacrificing sleep and working really hard on the presentation, dark circles are best kept hidden. Meghna suggests using an under-eye corrector. “These correctors are orange/yellow in colour and need to be applied prior to using the concealer. They prevent the under-eye from looking ashen.”
Small eyes
Cosmetics will do the trick where cosmetic surgery cannot. Meghna says: “Apply eye liner on the upper lashes and white eye pencil inside the lashline where you would normally use black kohl. The white pencil would make the eyes look bigger. Also use a brown pencil on the lower lash line and on the outer rim of your eyes.”
Deep set eyes
Lighter shades and shimmer can help you with this one. “Apply lighter eye shadow on the eyelids along with a thin eyeliner. Add a touch of shimmer on the centre of the eye lids.” And strictly, no kohl pencil, she adds.
Sparse lashes
Before you bat your eyelids, add the final touches with some lush eyelashes to boot. False eyelashes or lengthening mascara will help add volume to your lashes. Fill up the area that is sparse with brown eye pencil.
Sparse eyebrows
Your eye make-up is never complete without touching up your eyebrows. For people with naturally sparse or thin eyebrows, fill in the area with an eyebrow pencil or eyebrow filler, suggests Meghna. An eyebrow pencil is usually the same colour as the brows, that is, black or brown. And add a coat of transparent mascara.
Five make-up must-haves according to Meghna:
Aqua eye pencil which won’t smudge
Skin primer
Under eye corrector for dark circles
Lip and cheek tint
Lip balm

Kuwaiti newspapers suspended over tape scandal

A Kuwaiti court has suspended two national newspapers after they breached an order by the public prosecutor on disclosing information on a highly dubious leaked tape on Sunday.
The order was passed days after the information ministry notified that Al Watan and Alem Al Youm would be suspended if they did not comply with the order.

The newspapers had published stories about a recording that discusses an alleged plot to overthrow the Gulf state's ruling system and contesting the Emir's rights and prerogatives.

Both the newspapers published articles about and opinions by several legislators conflicting the notion of suspending newspapers over articles.

According to Gulf News, the Kuwait Ministry had urged all print, electronic and visual media to adhere to the gag order imposed by the public prosecutor.

The highly controversial case started in December when a tweeter posted on his account that Shaikh Ahmad Al Fahd Al Sabah, the former deputy premier for economic affairs and energy minister, had received an audio tape containing highly sensitive information about Shaikh Nasser Al Mohammad Al Ahmad Al Sabah, the former premier, and Jassem Al Khorafi, the ex-parliament Speaker revealed reports.
